Burning: A Poem

It’s hard to know how to be there for someone in pain. Being a part of someone’s support system doesn’t mean pulling them out of whatever they are going though, it means sitting in the hurt with them, and not leaving them alone.

Burning

I’ll brave the embers

and breathe the ashes

and bear your fire.

I’ll sit in your flames

and suffer the smoke

and silence the liar.

I won’t rise while you crumble

or cause you to stumble

while the flames all grow higher.

I’ll sit and burn with you

I’ll choke, and be singed too

I wont leave you alone in the mire.
