I’ve been talking about the launch of Marturia Publications for months now, and I have some exciting news! Marturia will be launching in June! We will be launching the website, and in business to help self publishing authors get their books ready for publication!
I am so excited about this project because it is very near and dear to my heart. As a self-published author myself, I know how stressful and confusing self-publishing can be. Often you are left second guessing your decisions, feeling like you’re not qualified, and dreading your book “looking” self-published.
My goal for Marturia is to partner with and support self-publishing authors. Sometimes you just need a support community to validate your decisions and reaffirm that you are on the right track. We will be there to coach and consult authors who just need that assurance, as well as offer services to help. Our goal is to make sure you don’t skip important steps that will give your book an edge in the market space!
There are a few things you don’t want to skimp on, because they lead to that “looking self-published” thing we all want to avoid! A few things that are worth the investment include:
Editing
Nothing is more frustrating to me as a reader than being pulled out of the story because the wrong word was left in, or a sentence doesn’t make any sense with that punctuation. As an author, nothing was more embarrassing than opening my finally-printed book, only to see that I used the wrong “you’re” on page 4! I had five different people proofread my book! If there is one thing you should splurge on getting a professional to do, it is editing!
Cover Design
Unfortunately in the world we live in, readers often do still judge books based on their cover art. Be honest, you probably do, too. So if words are your strong suit and not aesthetics, let a professional design your cover so you can stand out on the shelf and attract readers! It doesn’t matter how great your story is if readers are never persuaded to buy and read it. This is they key to initial book sales, before you have word of mouth on your side.
Formatting
Nothing says self-published like your paragraphs not being indented and your layout not meeting market standards. But its also the little finishing touches that pull readers into the world you’ve created. I mean who doesn’t love the little stars in the Harry Potter books? All those font choices and identifying designs are what help set the tone, build your brand, and create your fandom’s style.
That’s Not All Though!
Those are only a few of the services we are going to offer starting this summer! We will offer more as well, like coaching, consulting, and support for authors. Content feedback will also be available if you’re really looking for ways to deepen and improve your story and writing style.
Stay tuned for the website launch, and make sure you check it out and share with any writer friends you think may want to have us as a resource!
We also have plans to host some writing/publishing conferences for writers interested in learning more about the craft and the business of being an author. So stay tuned for all the fun!
You can also find us on Facebook , Twitter, and Instagram. So make sure to like and follow!
Your story matters, and we can’t wait to help you share it!
